Ballerina Review (No Spoilers)

The film by Chung-Hyun Lee , the director of “The Call,” stars Jeon Jong-seo from that film and the character “Tokyo” from Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area in the lead role of this action movie. The protagonist is a covert operative who turns to seek revenge for her friend who committed suicide, driven by the actions of a drug cartel. the actual action scenes are very limited in the movie, with only four short scenes lasting just a few minutes in a film that runs for 1 hour and 33 minutes. This accounts for less than 30% of the entire movie, and the action scenes themselves do not look impressive. They lack clear, action sequences and are often fast-paced, making them difficult to follow at times.

The heroine’s use of the gun is unreasonable from the moment she goes to buy an illegal gun, which elderly person selling guns in a car in the middle of a grassy field, mimicking Western-style scenes, and attempting to make them comical in an unnecessary way. The heroine is not familiar with the type of gun, even though it is the organization’s top-level bodyguard card. In the final scene, she uses a pistol to shoot ten people without changing bullets, There is an attempt to make the shooting scene look cool, but it lacks logical consistency because she is surrounded from all directions, Such action scenes only provide general entertainment and nothing more.

The storyline has become even worse as the movie intentionally uses minimal dialogue, with the heroine barely saying much, making the film feel quiet and stagnant. It then resorts to using flashback scenes to narrate her relationship with a friend throughout the movie, which doesn’t help to connect emotionally with the story but rather becomes more annoying. There isn’t much of a well-thought-out revenge plot, as one might expect. Moreover, the antagonist’s role is very short and shallow, with just the opening hotel scene and drug production site clip, without much depth beyond that. The boss character is making it easy for the heroine to kill, leading to disappointment.

In summary, it’s a Korean action film that tries to emulate the popular trends of the West but falls short due to its weak storyline, short action scenes, and lack of creativity. It comes across as rather ordinary and can be easily watched and forgotten in just over an hour.
