Wingwomen Review (Netflix) Only the actors are good-looking; aside from that, there’s nothing good at all.

Summary

In summary, it’s a bad action movie because it clearly intends to deceive the audience into thinking it’s an action film. It might be because of the low production budget, which results in not having much action scene budget. However, the storyline about female friendship portrayed in the movie is also not well-done. Even if the actors are good-looking, I would recommend skipping it; it’s not worth watching.

Wingwomen Review (No Spoilers)

This film with Mélanie Laurent directing and starring in it. She has an impressive body of work, including movies like “Now You See Me,” “Inglourious Basterds,” and her Netflix film “Oxygen.” She has directed several films as well. However, this is her first work for Netflix, and unfortunately, it doesn’t leave much of a memorable impression, as the movie lacks memorable elements, aside from the main cast of the three actors.

The film begins with an action-packed scene in the style of a James Bond spy movie, including a high-speed forest car chase and a drone pursuit. This opening sequence does have some elements that make it intriguing. However, it seems that this initial action scene is used to deceive the audience into thinking there will be more exciting action to come. Unfortunately, the story after this point becomes rather flat, with a lack of action scenes. Even the heist scene, which should have been a highlight, falls short. The movie appears to mislead and disappoint viewers from start to finish.

The film attempts to create a heist plot but leans more towards an assassin-style narrative. It primarily relies on shooting scenes with sniper rifles, attempting to incorporate a John Wick-like plot, where revenge is a driving force, like turning a dog into a rabbit. There are small revenge scenes sprinkled throughout the movie,However, these elements are introduced briefly and do not add substantial depth to the story.

What the film truly wants to convey is the theme of female friendship. The main character, Carol (Mélanie Laurent), is the leader of a gang of middle-aged female robbers, and she has a close, non-romantic relationship with her tough partner Alex (Adèle Exarchopoulos). They are already a team before the arrival of the new character, Sam (Manon Bresch), a young black woman hired to be their getaway driver. Both Carol and Alex must teach the art of robbery to Sam, resulting in training sessions with occasional minor disagreements that eventually evolve into a deep female friendship. This is the central theme of the movie, and it doesn’t focus on action or heist scenes as one might expect. However, one positive aspect is that all three actresses have their unique beauty, which makes the film visually engaging throughout.
