Sixty Minutes Review Netflix

The action and martial arts film takes inspiration from the real-time concept of the film “ Run lola run ,” both of which are German films. It revolves around a protagonist who runs from a sports arena to his girlfriend’s separated house, where they are organizing a birthday party for their little daughter. The twist is that he faces a deadline – if he doesn’t make it in one hour, he will lose custody rights to his daughter. Simply running is not enough; the film adds complexity by introducing obstacles, including a rigged boxing match from the opposing side that aims to capitalize on high-stakes betting. This leads to a pursuit by the rival team, resulting in intense action scenes along the way. As the clock ticks, the tension and obstacles escalate, creating a gripping and action-packed storyline.

The film is deliberately focused on selling realistic MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fight scenes in authentic scenarios. It includes both stand-up fighting and ground grappling, executed convincingly with intense and realistic portrayals. Despite the fact that the actors are not professional athletes, they deliver performances that authentically capture the essence of MMA. The makeup work is meticulous, creating appearances similar to actual MMA athletes, complete with the distinctive cauliflower ear resulting from being tightly clinched.

These fight scenes serve as the highlights of the movie, characterized by their ferocity and authenticity. Even though the actors may not be real athletes, their performances are believable and convincing. The film takes care to present the MMA fights in a way that mirrors reality, with the characters displaying proper techniques and strategies.

In addition to the main protagonist, there are supporting characters from his training camp who join in the action. The film features multiple fight scenes set in various locations, each contributing to the overall narrative. However, a notable inconsistency arises in that there seems to be a lack of reasonable interference or restriction on the characters’ actions. For instance, in a bar fight scene, there is no apparent security or bouncers preventing the altercation, making these scenes feel more staged than realistic, contrary to what the storyline aims for.

The film still incorporates drama into the protagonist’s life as he struggles to meet a deadline, having to rush to get a birthday cake for his daughter and a kitten for her, who sees the event as a significant obstacle to overcome. However, the film doesn’t delve deeply into these aspects as much as the plot suggests. Ultimately, both getting the birthday cake and taking care of the cat seem like superficial plot points with little weight compared to the storyline.

The main selling point of the story, regarding the real-time element, is quite deceptive. In reality, the film is 1 hour and 29 minutes long, but it cuts the initial segment, which sets up the story, by 15 minutes, and omits 4 minutes of credits. This results in the actual time spent on the narrative being over 60 minutes, and the film wastes a significant amount of time on various aspects. There are even scenes, like one with sleeping on a train, that do not contribute to the real-time element, causing initial viewers to perhaps question the credibility of the time presented in the story. Ultimately, the film abandons this time concept to find its own ending, leaving the 60-minute premise largely unused and wasted, which is considered highly disappointing.

Summary: The movie revolves around the idea of real-time sales but fails to deliver realistic. The only redeeming factor is the abundance of MMA action scenes, which are entertaining. However, the film falls short in portraying genuine moments in the storyline and the dramatic scenes involving the father-son relationship with little weight compared to the storyline. making it overall unappealing.
