Barracuda Queens Review
The Netflix series based on the true story case of the Lidingö Gang, but makes significant changes by adapting the story to focus on a group of teenage girls instead of boys. This alteration has resulted in a drastic shift in the narrative, making it an illogical and implausible creation. The motivations, actions, and overall development of the story are flawed, with the main driving force being to pay off hefty fines and reckless credit card spending. The series portrays the teenage girls stealing from homes without any sense of tension and the importance of alarms or security measures is disregarded. Additionally, the police is portrayed as incompetent, despite the continuous mistakes made by the group of girls. The police either fail to notice or only express minor concerns, allowing the plot to progress with ease. In the finale, the series still manages to find an easy way for the group of teenage girls to escape their wrongdoing. However, in the real case, everyone involved was held accountable for their actions. Therefore, this is not a series that should be labeled as “based on a true story.
Furthermore, the storyline wastes time with irrelevant subplots and the depiction of characters’ personal lives that have little to the main plot. Despite the series consisting of only 6 episodes, each lasting just 30 minutes, a significant amount of time is dedicated to pointless elements such as leisure activities, parties, romantic pursuits, and the individual family problems of each character. All of these aspects are stuffed into the series and contribute to its overall tediousness and lack of purpose, resulting in a significant waste of time.
The actors themselves lack charm and attempt to portray characters as privileged individuals with troubled lives. This becomes more annoying to watch than it helps the audience understand why the characters would engage in criminal activities.
This is a series a short viewing time, but after finishing it, you will feel an extreme sense of time wasted. It is not worth watching at all.
