The plot of the old-school action spy movie by Dexter Fletcher, a unknown director, However, the film’s script is penned by Rhett Reese, the screenwriter behind both Deadpool movies, which maintains the same style. That is, an action-comedy in the spy genre, which is not new these days as there are many similar movies. The only novelty is the pairing of Hollywood stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, with the latter having experience in this genre from films like The Gray Man and No Time to Die. However, the lead actress and her roles emphasize sexiness as the main theme with action as the secondary. This caters to audiences who enjoy this type of film but does not sell the tough, strong female image from real spy movies. Furthermore, the chemistry between Ana de Armas and Chris Evans doesn’t seem to click, In the later part, Chris often plays comedic roles.and his character as a good-natured guy seems to underutilize his abilities. However, the charm of both actors sustains the film, and it’s enough for fans of the leads to enjoy the movie.

In the action scenes, there was an attempt by Apple TV+ to elevate the streaming movie to the level of big-budget blockbusters. Some scenes were well-designed to capture the feel of high-budget action movies, such as the opening car chase and the action scene in the restaurant at the end, which felt fresh and new. However, apart from those scenes, the rest of the action scenes were fairly average, such as the final fight scene on the plane, which was poorly executed and seemed like they were intentionally cutting scene to save on the budget.

In addition, the film also features several well-known actors, including Anthony Mackie, Ryan Reynolds, John Cho but they all have supporting roles with less than a minute of screen time. The film intentionally adds comedic interludes but they don’t add much value to the overall story.

The main villain played by Adrien Brody doesn’t have a particularly memorable role as he is just a boss who isn’t very smart and focuses only on ordering his henchmen around. This actually makes Mike Moh’s role as his henchman more prominent. The scene where he uses martial arts to fight Chris Evans at the end is a highlight.

The movie also suffers from some strange and illogical plot points, with the writing seemingly inserting things just to keep the story moving along. For example, having a bunch of bounty hunters all after the same target like John Wick without giving any real explanation as to why. It’s a lazy writing trope that even for a comedy feels too easy.

Overall, if you consider it as a streaming movie that doesn’t have high expectations for quality, it’s a fun and enjoyable movie with a predictable plot. It’s not a serious spy movie, but rather focuses on comedy and the couple’s mismatched romance, which is also entertaining. However, once you finish watching it, there’s nothing particularly memorable about it.
