Locked In Review (Netflix) A story of murder and a love affair that confuses who the villain is?
Locked In
Summary
it’s a movie with a complex narrative that keeps viewers wondering who the villain is throughout. It includes switching between the past and the present, occasionally inserting romantic elements and suspenseful scenes. However, the excessive twist in the ending nearly renders the entire story unreasonable. Nevertheless, it can still be considered a watchable film for those who enjoy twist-driven narratives, especially.

Locked In Review (No Spoilers)
The Netflix original film that provided an opportunity for the up-and-coming director Nour Wazzi, who transitioned from short films to her feature film debut, had a short film background that received decent reviews. However, what’s intriguing is that the screenplay was penned by Rowan Joffe, known for his work on “28 Weeks Later,”. Following that, he hasn’t had many prominent works. Additionally, it features a renowned actress like Famke Janssen in a leading role, which adds significant interest to the project.
The film falls into the thriller genre, starting with the mysterious injury of Catherine (played by Famke Janssen). The film doesn’t explicitly explain how it happened; it only provides brief glimpses of her traumatic memories. She experiences locked-in syndrome, where her body is paralyzed to blinking. The story then takes a step back to explore her past and who she is.
The main character of the story, Lena (played by Rose Williams), is her stepdaughter, who has just married Jamie (played by Finn Cole), Catherine’s deceased husband’s son. She is also a new single mother,But not inheriting all of assets,Catherine often expresses her displeasure with Lena, leading to tension within the family. This tension is the starting point for all the events in the story.
The film delves into the complexities of family relationships, where Lena loves and respects Catherine, but Catherine despises her, and Jamie dislikes the stepmother, suspecting her of marrying his father for inheritance. These characters are in constant conflict before the introduction of the family doctor (played by Alex Hassell)), who shows a clear interest in Lena. This shift turns the story into a thriller with romantic elements, featuring occasional suspenseful scenes before it evolves into a complex murder mystery. It includes suspenseful scenes and keeps the audience guessing about who the real villain might be. This tension culminates in a murder case involving Catherine at the beginning of the film, which is intertwined with her current medical condition being questioned by the nurse who cares for her. The film leaves viewers in suspense, making it challenging to determine who the actual culprit is,including Catherine.
Even though the movie successfully confuses viewers about who the villain is, the excessive and convoluted ending leaves the entire story feeling unreasonable. To the point where it’s hard to believe in the motivating factors behind all the actions (as they didn’t need to be this way). It can be said that the film has a significant issue in its ending, although it doesn’t reach the point of being highly displeasing.
