Overhaul Revew
A racing and crime hybrid movie in the same vein as Fast & Furious, but it centers around professional truck drivers who compete in serious races, just like in the world of motorsports. The main character, Roger, finds himself inheriting a debt from his father, who was also a racer on the same team. When everything takes a turn for the worse, he’s forced to find a way out by taking on jobs to rob high-tech cargo trucks. The movie delves into the intricacies of how these cargo trucks are protected, with features like GPS tracking and constant monitoring. It also showcases the tactics employed by the thieves to pull off heists and evade tracking, some of which may seem exaggerated but add a unique twist to the story. While there are similarities to Fast & Furious, especially in the driving and action scenes, the crime element remains a familiar plot device. The protagonist excels as a skilled driver, earns well, and then faces adversity, attempting to leave the life behind but failing, ultimately relying on Police to aid him, a storyline that’s been seen before.
The movie emphasizes both heists and racing equally throughout, with Roger having to compete against a female rival who is the heroine of the story. The film goes into great detail about the format of racing, like the teams that closely monitor the engine temperature, the water boiler, and various drivetrain components, then communicate this information to the driver. Although this sport is not as fast-paced as regular car racing, it still presents challenges in terms of driving techniques. Teams rely on their mechanics to help, and the plot also weaves in small relationships between the friend’s daughter who passed away and the protagonist to show that she can step in for her father as well.
The main issue with this film is not the storytelling of a successful formula, as viewers are likely already aware of it from the beginning. Instead, it’s the unrealistic driving scenes that don’t closely resemble Fast & Furious. The movie heavily relies on simulated driving rather than actual on-road driving, Furthermore, a significant issue is the excessive cutting of racing scenes., with the only extended scene being at the very end. While it’s understandable that the budget might not have been sufficient due to being a streaming movie, it still feels very lacking and disappointing, resembling a poorly done imitation of racing films.
In summary, it’s a movie that combines racing and crime elements with the same old successful formula but attempts to break away from the Fast & Furious style by focusing on trucks. It does a decent job of incorporating this type of sport and heist involving tech cargo, but it doesn’t emphasize the very exciting action scenes in both the racing and criminal activities, leaving viewers somewhat disappointed.
