The Conference (Netflix) Slasher, along with the criticism of corrupt government officials.
The Conference
Summary
In summary, this is a horror slasher film that brings a lot of fresh and unique elements to its deep storyline. It combines corrupt government officials with Capitalism, all while being hunted and killed, which is unbelievably intriguing. The writing is clever, creating a killer who is both comical and well-reasoned, with a compelling motive for actions. The only downside is the excessive use of camera angles for skip killing scenes, which might not make it stand out significantly in the same genre.

The Conference (No spoiler)
A slasher film with a plot that breaks the norms of popular teen culture by portraying them as government officials. While the premise may not sound entirely novel, the story takes a different twist by delving into political corruption,Capitalism, and workplace misconduct. It introduces a masked killer into the mix with a major shopping center construction project. All of these elements are woven into the backdrop of this.
The result turns out to be a slasher film that’s packed with quirks and inserts more content than just a crazed killer chasing the characters one by one. The film takes a critical look at corrupt government officials and their collusion with big business interests,Even low-ranking government officials are unknowingly drawn into participating in corrupt schemes. When anyone attempts to raise objections, they are silenced through various means, including the exploitation of sexuality. The film seamlessly weaves these elements into the narrative from the very beginning, and even after the revelation of the killer, it continues to introduce these themes. It emphasizes the wickedness of the corrupt masterminds without compromising the thrill of the chase and survival. Additionally, some parts of the film are deliberately laced with humor, which appears to be the director’s stylistic choice for this storyline.
As for the murderer’s part, even though the audience may find the large mascot head worn by the killer somewhat annoying throughout, the director knows this well. They intentionally make it look comically grotesque, using it as a shield to deflect any attempts at retaliation from the victim (because it’s thick and quite large). Furthermore, it serves as a disguise to mislead and make others believe it could be anyone, with the intention of diverting attention away from any specific individual.
The murder scenes were portrayed fairly well, even though there were moments when they cut away to avoid excessive violence. The film includes cruelty in multiple scenes, and the killer’s cunning use of traps set for the victims in the woods, along with the dangerous spots on their escape route. in this case, there’s no easy way for the characters to escape, no matter which path they take. This makes the story more plausible than the usual scenario of creating a killer who hunts people down in a conventional manner.
Another great point is that the movie doesn’t make the protagonist the sole character who fights the villains. Instead, the movie has other supporting characters join the fight later on. These are good government officials who remain and provide a scene for redemption, unlocking themselves. As for the heroine, she has a scene where she confronts the new villain, which is surprising and quite satisfying all at once.
In summary, this is a horror slasher film that brings a lot of fresh and unique elements to its deep storyline. It combines corrupt government officials with Capitalism, all while being hunted and killed, which is unbelievably intriguing.
