The Lincoln Lawyer SS2
Summary
In summary, this is still a great legal drama series, not much different from the first season, despite having a similar storyline. The Lincoln Lawyer SS2 Part 1-2 Review (No Spolers)
In the first season, this series was released on Netflix all at once with 10 episodes. However, for the second season, the marketing strategy changed, and it was divided into two parts: Part 1 and Part 2, each consisting of 5 episodes. The storyline remained consistent with the first season, with the only difference being a cliffhanger in Episode 5 to increase excitement. For viewers who binge-watched the series, this change might not have been as noticeable, as the cliffhanger became a common aspect of storytelling.
The series still maintains a mixed narrative with main cases, sub-cases, minor cases, and inserted cases as before. However, it introduces a unique twist by using a tattooed murder suspect left unresolved at the end of Season 1 as the opening case in a minor plot, not the typical main case seen in other series. This intriguing storyline follows Attorney Lincoln, who is hired by a wealthy young man to handle a small case, but events take unexpected turns in the future. At this point, Lincoln’s life has changed significantly from Season 1, after winning the case and becoming a renowned figure in the city. In the first two episodes of Season 2, the series cleverly links the old pending case with the unfolding new life. It also introduces a new character, Lisa Trammell (portrayed by Lana Parrilla), the owner of a famous restaurant who encounters and develops a relationship with Lincoln from their first meeting. Lisa becomes a key character in the main case of this second season.
The main and sub-plot of the series start in Episode 3. Lisa Trammell is charged with the murder of a real estate developer in the parking lot near her store. Due to their relationship on that night, Colin decides to help her fight the case immediately, even though their chances of winning are slim. Moreover, the team faces criticism for violating the lawyer-client relationship rule despite having halted the relationship.
The story revolves heavily around the theme of love, more so than in the first season. It explores the new love between Cole and his former first wife, Maggie McPherson , played by Neve Campbell , whose role lasts for more than half of the series before her character is written off. The series keeps this complex love storyline as a focal point to depict the personal lives with problems that cannot be solved no matter how skilled the attorneys are in the court. This newfound love also comes to a very satisfying conclusion towards the end of the series.
In the part of the case, it appears much lighter compared to the first season. The story mostly focuses on the dialogue, with very few or almost no action scenes at all. However, it still manages to be enjoyable with the intriguing cases that are covered. From suspecting whether Lisa Trammell might be the real murderer or if the witness, who is a mafia businessperson, could be the one who hired the assassin. The series portrays a African-American prosecutor paired up as a dynamic fighting duo, with both winning and losing in every piece of evidence that arises. Although the viewers may know that the protagonist will ultimately win the case, the back-and-forth storytelling keeps the series continuously entertaining from start to finish. It’s safe to say that it is engrossing and enjoyable throughout, despite the lack of action.
The story is still developing, with each character evolving and growing continuously according to the plot. The romantic relationship between the assistant attorney and the detective is a significant part of the story. Additionally, there are light-hearted and teasing moments before the wedding. There is a bit of suspense regarding whether they will make it to the wedding.the black female driver also strives to achieve her dreams, facing some obstacles, and eventually, some team members will come to her aid, providing legal assistance to help her succeed.
The shortcomings of the story are considered minimal, with some main cases ending in a simple manner, without escalating to intense conflicts unnecessarily. However, the story still continues beyond the courtroom, helping to bring all the plotlines to a satisfying conclusion in the end. Another point is that this season introduces more supporting characters and delves more into their lives outside of the legal field compared to the first season. This allows viewers to understand the family lives of each character better. It is understood that the series intends to use these storylines in the following seasons because the cases left unresolved at the end are related to the first two episodes and will likely return in season 3
In summary, this is still a great legal drama series, not much different from the first season, despite having a similar storyline. However, the storytelling style has evolved, allowing for significant character development. It has become a series that captivates viewers and keeps them following continuously, even without a definite conclusion (as there are many volumes in the novel series).
